Hebrews 10:19-25 reads, “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
What are some things we can learn from this passage? One thing is that we need to have confidence. Verse 21 talks of the “full assurance that faith brings.” We don’t have to be tentative or unsure. We can be completely assured, knowing with all our heart that one day we will see Jesus, because we have been forgiven. The first verse says, “since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place.” The hope we have isn’t just a vague wish. It is an understanding, a confidence that one day we will be with Him. As verse 23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Jesus will never go back on His promise, so we can know for sure that He will gather us all to Him one day.
Another thing is that we need to not lose our zeal for Jesus. We need to be building each other up and encouraging each other in Christ. Being together with other Christians should make us want to show Christ’s love wherever we go. So when you are with others, be kind and considerate to them. Think about what you should say to them that will build them up and not tear them down. And we should always be encouraging each other to keep going and keep persevering. After all, we don’t know when Christ will return, so we need to be ready for that day, remaining strong in the faith and helping each other to stay strong. And even though following Christ can be extremely challenging at times, it will all be worth it in the end. We will receive the greatest reward we could imagine, and all the trials we went through won’t matter anymore. Getting to see God face-to-face will be more than enough. So keep going strong—soon we will be with Him in our heavenly home.
