Home A Holy Place Application The Curtain Our Reaction

Honoring Him as Holy

It was extremely important for the Israelites treat God with respect, always considering Him holy. The same should apply to us. We need to revere and respect God—for He is the Creator of the whole universe, and He is so much greater than we can even imagine. So what are some things that we can do to show our respect for God?

Use God's Name with Respect

One thing we can do is to respect His name. One of the Ten Commandments that God gave the Israelites was to not take His name in vain, or to not misuse His name. When we say God’s name, we need to do so in a way that shows reverence. It’s not something we should just say thoughtlessly or carelessly. We should actually be thinking about Him and talking about Him when we say His name. So whenever you use God’s name, just be mindful of this and show respect for Him.

Worship with Mindfulness

We also need to show respect for God during our worship. It can be very easy to not really be thinking about what we are saying and doing. It becomes routine, and we’re not always mindful of what our worship really means. But part of respecting God during our worship is focusing on what we are doing. What is the significance of the words that you are singing? What does it really mean to be praying to God, or taking part in communion? Worship is not something we should do carelessly. So I challenge you to think about what worship truly is, and why it is so important.

Prioritize God in Your Life

Respecting God also means putting Him first in our lives. This one is a little more abstract because it means something a little different for each of us. It might mean that you are engaging in some sinful practice that God doesn’t want you to do, and you need to break out of that practice. Or maybe you are doing something that isn’t sinful, but you’re dedicating a lot of your time to that and it’s getting in the way of your time with God. Maybe it just means that you need to spend more time in prayer and Bible study. Whatever it is, I challenge you to examine yourself and think of some areas of your life where you could make some changes to put God first.
